Coming Home

November 22, 2025 Sheridan, AR

In 1990, I stood in front of a group of 7th graders in Little Rock, Arkansas, delivering my very first presentation. I can still remember the nervous energy, the hopeful faces, and the sense that something important was beginning. That moment became the spark that set me on a lifelong journey of speaking to young people about prevention, choices, and resilience. Looking back, I realize how profoundly that day shaped my path. What started as a single presentation has grown into decades of outreach, thousands of students, and countless communities touched by the message of living with clarity and purpose. Living a life of purpose has been the greatest reward. Each time I step into a classroom, auditorium, or community center, I am reminded that this work is not just about information—it’s about connection. It’s about helping young people see their own strength and equipping them with tools to make healthy decisions. That sense of mission has carried me through challenges and victories alike, and it continues to bring joy and fulfillment every day. Today, I share not only my story but also the framework that has guided me—the Youth Speaker Blueprint. This blueprint is more than a program; it’s a roadmap for speakers who want to inspire, educate, and truly connect with students. It represents the lessons I’ve learned since that first presentation in Little Rock: that authenticity, preparation, and passion can change lives. And for me, it all began with those 7th graders in 1990.
